SEO Tools for Small Business: Best SEO Software for Small Businesses, Priced and Compared
SEO tools for small business run from $29 to about $139 a month for one research platform. The number that decides the purchase is not the price, it is how many websites the cheap plans let you cover: Ubersuggest Individual at $29 allows one domain, and Moz describes its $49 plan as built for individuals managing a single website. Every price on this page was read off the vendor’s own pricing page on 31 August 2026, because the roundups currently ranking for this query are quoting plans that no longer exist.

Keywordpilot is an independent keyword research and content planning tool. We do not sell rank tracking, backlink analysis or site audits, so this page names the platforms that do and says plainly where we are not the answer. The budget pick every roundup recommends was discontinued
Search for the best SEO tools for small businesses today and several of the results on page one recommend SE Ranking at $65 a month as the affordable all-in-one option. That plan was called Essential and SE Ranking deleted it during its 2026 restructure. Read off seranking.com on 31 August 2026, the subscription page offers exactly two self-serve plans: Core at $129 a month list, or $103.20 billed annually, and Growth at $279 list, or $223.20 annually. There is nothing below Core.
That matters more than a normal price rise, because the per-tier increases in that restructure were only around 8%. Deleting the entry plan is what took the cost of getting started from $65 to $129, a 98% jump, and it is the reason the complaints about SE Ranking bills doubling do not match the published price history. If a comparison article recommends a $65 SE Ranking plan for your small business, it has not been checked since 2025, and you should treat its other figures the same way.
What the roundups say
SE Ranking Essential at $65 a month, presented as the affordable all-in-one platform for a small business on a budget.
What SE Ranking sells
Core at $129 a month, or $103.20 on annual billing. Essential no longer appears anywhere on the subscription page.
What it means for you
The genuine sub-$50 tier now belongs to Ubersuggest, Ahrefs Starter and the Moz entry plan, and each of the three is capped in a different way.

Best SEO tools for small businesses: what the cheapest usable plan actually gives you
This is the comparison a small business needs and almost nobody publishes, because roundups compare headline features rather than the ceilings you hit in month two. Below is each vendor’s cheapest plan that can do real keyword research, with the two limits that bind a small business first: how many websites it covers, and how many keywords it will track.
| Plan | Monthly list | Websites covered | Keywords tracked | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ubersuggest Individual | $29 | 1 domain | 125 per domain | 150 searches a day, 1 user, 5 competitors. Metered per domain, so a second site means upgrading. |
| Ahrefs Starter | $29 | Research only, no projects | Not included | Every report caps at 250 rows and export rows per month is listed as None. You cannot take data out. |
| Moz entry plan | $49 | 1 website | Not published on the pricing page | Described by Moz as designed for individuals managing a single website. Sits below the three main cards. |
| Ubersuggest Business | $49 | 7 domains | 150 per domain | 300 searches a day, 2 users. The per-domain cap still applies to each site separately. |
| Moz Pro Standard | $99 | 3 tracked sites | 300 per month | 1 user, 400,000 pages crawled, 50 tracked AI prompts. $79 a month on annual billing. |
| Ahrefs Lite | $129 | 5 projects | 750 | Only 6 months of historical data and 1 user. Ahrefs itself calls this its small business plan. |
| SE Ranking Core | $129 | 10 projects | 2,000 tracked daily | 1 manager seat. A second person needs Growth, which is more than double the price. |
| Semrush Pro | $139.95 | 5 projects | 500 | 1 seat on every tier and extra seats run about $45. $117.33 a month on annual billing. |
Two things stand out once the ceilings are in the same table. Ahrefs Lite and SE Ranking Core cost an identical $129 and differ by 2.7 times on tracked keywords and 2 times on projects. And the entire sub-$50 tier is single-site by design: Ubersuggest Individual allows one domain, Moz sells its $49 plan for one website, and Ahrefs Starter has no project slots at all. Vendors are not being careless there. The one-site cap is the upgrade trigger.
▸ The metric that ranks these plans properly, and the point where it lies to you
SEO software for small business, priced per tracked keyword
Every vendor here meters the same unit, the tracked keyword, and none of them divides its price by it. Doing that arithmetic reorders the market completely. The figures below are the vendors’ published monthly list prices divided by their published tracked keyword allowances, and the calculation is ours.
| Plan | Monthly | Keywords tracked | Cost per tracked keyword |
|---|---|---|---|
| SE Ranking Core | $129 | 2,000 | $0.065 |
| Moz Pro Medium | $179 | 1,500 | $0.12 |
| Ahrefs Standard | $249 | 2,000 | $0.12 |
| Ahrefs Lite | $129 | 750 | $0.17 |
| Ubersuggest Individual | $29 | 125 | $0.23 |
| Semrush Pro | $139.95 | 500 | $0.28 |
| Moz Pro Standard | $99 | 300 | $0.33 |
SE Ranking Core is five times cheaper per tracked keyword than Moz Pro Standard while costing only 30% more per month. On this metric the cheap plans look terrible and the mid plans look excellent, which is exactly why a cost-per-unit table is the wrong way for a small business to finish the decision.
Here is where it lies to you. Cost per unit only counts if you will use the units. A plumber with one website and forty commercial terms worth ranking for does not need 2,000 tracked keywords, and paying $129 to leave 1,960 of them idle is worse value than paying $29 for 125 and using most of them. The crossover sits at roughly 300 tracked keywords. Below it, the single-site plans win outright. Above about 700, SE Ranking Core is not seriously challenged by anything at its price.
One trap inside that table deserves naming, because it flatters a vendor unfairly. Ubersuggest meters tracked keywords per domain, not per account. Business at $49 covers 7 domains at 150 keywords each, which reads as 1,050 keywords for $49, or under five cents apiece, better than anything else here. For a business with one website it is 150 keywords for $49, and the other six allowances are unreachable. Per-domain metering makes a plan look cheap in a comparison table and behave expensively for the exact customer this page is written for.
▸ Best SEO software for small business, by the shape of the business
Which of these you should actually buy
One website, first year of SEO
Google Search Console plus Ubersuggest Individual at $29. One domain and 125 tracked keywords is enough to cover the terms a single site can realistically rank for in twelve months, and the money you save is better spent on writing the pages.
One website, SEO is now weekly
Moz Pro Standard at $99, or $79 annually, for 3 tracked sites and 300 tracked keywords, or SE Ranking Core if you want the headroom. This is the point where the extra allowance stops being waste.
Two to five sites or locations
SE Ranking Core at $129. Ten projects and 2,000 daily tracked keywords is the most capacity available at that price, and no competitor at $129 comes close on either number.
Competitor research is the priority
Ahrefs Lite at $129, positioned by Ahrefs itself as essential data for small businesses and personal projects. The link index is the best of the group. Accept 6 months of history and a single user.
You also run ads
Semrush Pro at $139.95. It is the most expensive entry here and the tracked keyword allowance is poor, but the advertising and PR data has no equivalent on the other four, so it earns its place only if you use that side.
Budget is genuinely zero
Google Search Console alone, and no shame in it. It reports your real queries, impressions, clicks and positions, and unlike every estimate on this page it is your own data rather than a model of it.
Per-vendor breakdowns behind these picks sit on our SE Ranking pricing, Moz Pro pricing, Ahrefs pricing, Semrush pricing and Ubersuggest pricing pages. If you run client sites rather than your own, the economics change completely and are worked through on SEO software for agencies.
▸ Two things worth checking before you enter a card number
Free trials, and which AI engines each tool can actually see
Trials are not equivalent
SE Ranking runs 14 days with no credit card required, stated directly under both plan buttons. Moz offers a free trial on Medium. Ubersuggest offers one on all three tiers with no obligation. Ahrefs runs no free trial at any tier, which is unusual in this market: its $29 Starter plan is the de facto trial, and there is a separate free product limited to a site you have verified as your own. For a small business that means you can evaluate four of these five before paying, and the fifth charges you to look.
The AI tracking has a hole in it
Every vendor here now bundles some AI visibility tracking, and it is worth knowing what it covers before you count it as a feature. Re-read on 2 September 2026, Moz Pro Standard tracks 4 AI models, named as GPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Perplexity, and the same four appear on every Moz tier. Moz doubled that list in the first days of September without changing the price. Ubersuggest lists ChatGPT and Gemini in keyword research, with Google AI Overview on Enterprise. Neither lists Claude. If your buyers are developers, lawyers or finance teams, that is a real gap, because those audiences use Claude heavily and none of the bundled trackers will show you a thing about it.
Where AI visibility monitoring is the actual job rather than a bundled extra, the dedicated tools and what they charge per tracked prompt are compared on AI search visibility tools, and the wider question of getting cited by answer engines is covered on answer engine optimization.
▸ Where Keywordpilot fits, and where it does not
We are not an all-in-one platform, and a small business rarely needs one
Said plainly on a page that ranks for small business SEO software: Keywordpilot does not do rank tracking, backlink analysis or site audits. If those are what you are shopping for, buy one of the five above. What all five have in common is that they hand you a keyword export and stop, and for a small business owner that export is the problem rather than the solution. Nobody running a shop or a practice wants 800 rows of search volume. They want to know which four pages to write next.
One seed, not a list
Type the thing you sell. There is no export to run first and no list to paste in, which matters when nobody at the business does this full time.
Grouped by intent
Keywords come back clustered into the topics that would be answered by the same page, so the output is a set of articles rather than a spreadsheet.
Winnability first
Each cluster carries a difficulty read against your own site, so the terms a small domain will not reach this year get dropped before you spend a month writing them.
A publish order
The plan arrives sequenced with a brief for each cluster, which is the part a small business actually acts on.
The grouping step is described on the keyword clustering tool page, checking volumes in bulk is search volume checking, competition scoring is on the keyword difficulty checker, and if your customers are in one town the approach changes, which is covered on local keyword research. At the far end of the same ladder, where the platforms stop publishing prices at all, the figures that can still be verified are on enterprise SEO software.

Small business SEO tools questions
What are the best SEO tools for small businesses?
For a business with one website, the honest shortlist is short: Google Search Console for free, then one paid research tool. Ubersuggest Individual at $29 a month covers a single domain with 125 tracked keywords. SE Ranking Core at $129 gives far more headroom. Moz has a $49 entry plan built for individuals running one site. Anything above $150 a month is aimed at agencies, not at you.
How much does SEO software cost for a small business?
Expect $29 to $139 a month for one research platform in August 2026. Ubersuggest starts at $29, Ahrefs Starter at $29, Moz at $49 for a single website, Moz Pro Standard at $99, Ahrefs Lite and SE Ranking Core both at $129, and Semrush Pro at $139.95. The cheapest plans are capped at one site, which is the constraint that decides most small business purchases.
Do small businesses need paid SEO tools?
Not on day one. Google Search Console reports your real queries, clicks and positions for free, and it is more accurate than any third party estimate because it is your own data. Paid tools earn their money when you need keyword volumes for pages you have not written yet, competitor visibility, or rank tracking across a list. That is usually the point where SEO becomes a weekly task rather than an occasional one.
Is SEO worth it for small business?
It is worth it when your customers search for what you sell and you can publish consistently. Organic traffic costs nothing per click, so a page that ranks keeps earning without further spend, which suits a small budget better than ads do. It is not worth it if you need customers this month, because ranking a new page typically takes several months.
What is the cheapest SEO tool for a small business?
Ubersuggest Individual and Ahrefs Starter both list at $29 a month, and they are not equivalent. Ubersuggest Individual covers one domain with 125 tracked keywords and 150 searches a day. Ahrefs Starter is research only, caps every report at 250 rows and lists export rows per month as None, so you cannot take data out of it. Read the export limits before you compare the prices.
Which SEO tools work for a business with one website?
Almost every entry plan is deliberately built for exactly this case. Ubersuggest Individual allows 1 domain, and Moz describes its $49 entry plan as designed for individuals managing a single website. The catch is the opposite one: if you add a second site later, both plans force an upgrade rather than an add-on, so factor in where you will be in a year.
Are free SEO tools good enough for a small business?
Google Search Console and Google Analytics cover measurement completely and cost nothing, and for a small local business they are often sufficient for the first year. What free tools do not give you is search volume and difficulty for keywords you do not yet rank for, which is the input to deciding what to write next. That gap is what a paid tool is actually being bought for.
How much should a small business spend on SEO per month?
On tools, $29 to $129 a month is the realistic band, and one platform is enough. The larger cost is time. A $49 subscription that needs eight hours a week of your attention is not a $49 decision, so the practical question is whether the tool shortens the work rather than whether it is the cheapest.
