Ahrefs costs $129 a month for the Lite plan, $249 for Standard and $449 for Advanced, on monthly billing in 2026. Below those sits a Starter plan at $29 a month, and above them an Enterprise tier from $1,499. Annual billing takes roughly 17 percent off. Those are the published numbers. The bill people are surprised by comes from two places the pricing page mentions quietly: every plan includes one seat, and Ahrefs charges for usage above your plan limits rather than cutting you off.
Here is what each Ahrefs plan includes, what the extras add, how the credit system works, and the honest test for which tier you actually need. Every figure on this page was read off Ahrefs’ own pricing and help pages, most recently on 23 August 2026. Last updated August 2026.
Ahrefs pricing in 2026, plan by plan
Four self-serve tiers plus Enterprise. All of the paid plans include the core keyword research, site audit, rank tracking and backlink tools. What changes between them is how much you can pull, how many projects you can run, and how many people can log in.
| Plan | Monthly | Extra seats | Who it is built for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $29 | Not offered | Solo site owners who research occasionally and want real data |
| Lite | $129 | $40 per user, up to 2 extra | Freelance SEOs and small teams running a handful of sites |
| Standard | $249 | $60 per user, up to 5 extra | Content teams wanting more history and higher report limits |
| Advanced | $449 | $80 per user, up to 10 extra | Agencies needing volume, API access and more projects |
| Enterprise | From $1,499, annual commitment | Unlimited users | Large organizations with SSO, audit and procurement requirements |
There is also Ahrefs Webmaster Tools, a free tier that gives you site audit and backlink data for domains you verify ownership of. It will not let you research a competitor, which is usually the whole reason people want the tool, but it is genuinely free and worth connecting even if you pay for nothing else.
How much does Ahrefs cost per month on the cheapest plan?
$29 a month, on the Starter plan. This is the detail most comparison articles have not caught up with, and it matters, because for years the answer to "what is the cheapest way to get real Ahrefs data" was $129. Starter puts the same keyword index and the same link index behind a much lower price, with tighter caps on how many reports you can run and how many projects you can keep.
The reason it is not simply the obvious choice is that the caps bind quickly if research is a daily habit rather than an occasional one. Starter suits someone auditing one site, checking a competitor now and then, and planning a quarter of content. It does not suit an SEO who opens twenty reports before lunch. If you are in the second group, Lite at $129 is the real entry point and you should budget for it.
The specific caps are worth knowing before you buy, because they are easy to miss on the pricing page. Ahrefs documents Starter as 200 credits a month, a hard limit of 250 rows per report (25 in the Top pages report), one month of historical data rather than six, 50 tracked keywords in Rank Tracker, and a single unverified project. Two of those matter more than the rest: Starter blocks data export entirely, which begins on Lite at 500,000 rows a month, and Starter cannot add a second user at any price. So the moment your workflow ends in a spreadsheet, or a colleague needs a login, the honest price of Ahrefs is $129 rather than $29.
How much does Ahrefs cost per year?
Annual billing discounts each plan by about 17 percent, so Lite works out near $108 a month, Standard near $208 and Advanced near $374. Over twelve months that is roughly $1,290 for Lite against $1,548 paying monthly, a saving of about $258. Enterprise is sold on an annual commitment only, starting near $1,499 a month.
The discount is real but it is not the deciding factor for most people. Committing a year to a tool you have used for a week is how software budgets quietly bloat. Pay monthly for the first quarter, watch whether you hit your limits, then switch to annual on the tier you have proven you need.
Ahrefs pricing changes: what is new in 2026
Ahrefs restructured its plans and raised prices during 2026, which is why the figures above will not match articles written before the change. Lite, Standard, Advanced and Enterprise all went up, and a new $29 Starter tier was added below Lite. If you budgeted from an older review, every number you wrote down is now low.
| Plan | Previously reported | Now (verified August 2026) | Extra per year |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | Did not exist | $29 a month | New entry tier |
| Lite | $99 a month | $129 a month | About $360 |
| Standard | $199 a month | $249 a month | About $600 |
| Advanced | $399 a month | $449 a month | About $600 |
| Enterprise | $999 a month | From $1,499 a month | About $6,000 |
A sourcing note, because this matters more than the table looks. The current prices in the right hand column were checked directly against Ahrefs' own pricing page in August 2026. The previous prices are what independent sources consistently report for the old lineup, not something Ahrefs publishes as a price history, so treat that column as corroborated reporting rather than a vendor statement. The percentage increases are largest at the top: Enterprise moved roughly 50 percent while Advanced moved about 13 percent.
The more interesting change is the one that is not a price rise. Adding Starter at $29 gave Ahrefs a genuine entry tier for the first time, and most competing articles still open by saying Ahrefs starts at $129. It does not, though the restrictions are severe enough that the $129 figure remains the honest answer for anyone who needs exports or a second seat. Which of those two numbers applies to you is the whole decision, and it is covered in the section above and in more depth on Ahrefs Lite vs Standard.
If a price increase is what brought you here, the useful question is not whether Ahrefs is still worth it in the abstract but which part of it you actually open each week. Paying a suite price for one module is the most common way SEO budgets drift, and the Content Explorer alternative breakdown works through the clearest example of that, where a single module sits behind the $249 tier.
Ahrefs plan limits, tier by tier
Prices are easy to compare and limits are not, which is where buying decisions go wrong. These are the numbers Ahrefs publishes in its own plan comparison, read off the pricing page on 23 August 2026. The row that moves the most money is not price at all: it is historical data, which triples from Lite to Standard and again from Standard to Advanced.
| Limit | Starter $29 | Lite $129 | Standard $249 | Advanced $449 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Projects | 1 unverified | 5 | 20 | 50 |
| Historical data | 1 month | 6 months | 2 years | 5 years |
| Tracked keywords | 50 | 750 | 2,000 | 5,000 |
| Tracked AI prompts | Not listed | 5 | 10 | 20 |
| Crawl credits | Not listed | 100,000 | 500,000 | 1,500,000 |
| Rows per report | 250 | 2,500 | 30,000 | 75,000 |
| Data export | None | 500,000 rows a month | 500,000 rows a month | 500,000 rows a month |
| Extra seats | Not offered | Up to 2 at $40 | Up to 5 at $60 | Up to 10 at $80 |
| Content Explorer | No | No | Yes | Yes |
| API access and MCP server | No | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Two rows deserve a second look. API access and the MCP server now appear in the Lite feature column, which is newer than most comparison articles reflect and matters if you wanted to pull Ahrefs data into your own reporting without paying for Standard. And Content Explorer is still the single feature separating Lite from Standard, a $120 a month gap for one module, which is why the Ahrefs Content Explorer alternative comparison exists at all.
On the Ahrefs API price specifically, Ahrefs does not publish a public per-unit rate anywhere. Advanced carries 1,000,000 API units a month and Enterprise 2,000,000, with uncapped access named as an Enterprise feature. If the API is your reason for buying, price it from Advanced upward and talk to their sales team rather than assuming a cheap tier will cover it.
Why is Ahrefs so expensive?
Because the expensive part is the crawler, not the interface. Ahrefs runs its own web crawl and maintains its own link index, which is why its backlink data is the most complete of the mainstream tools. Crawling and storing that much of the web continuously costs real money every day, whether you log in or not, and that fixed cost gets spread across subscribers.
It is also priced against what it replaces. For an agency, one Ahrefs seat substitutes for hours of manual competitor analysis a week. Against a billable rate, $129 stops looking like a large number quickly. The complaint is loudest from solo site owners, for whom the same $129 is a meaningful share of the entire budget for the site, and for whom the Starter tier is the honest answer.
What are the hidden costs of Ahrefs?
Three things push the bill past the sticker price, and none of them are hidden exactly, they are just easy to miss when you are comparing headline numbers.
Seats. Every plan ships with one user. A three-person team on Lite is $129 plus two seats at $40, so $209 a month, not $129. On Standard those seats are $60 each. If several people need their own login, add the seat cost before you compare tiers across vendors. Deciding between those two specific tiers is its own question, and the Ahrefs Standard versus Lite breakdown covers it properly. The single feature that usually forces the upgrade is Content Explorer, which has cheaper alternatives worth pricing first.
Usage above your limits. Ahrefs moved to a credit model where going over your plan allowance results in a charge rather than a hard stop. That is friendlier than being locked out mid-project, but it does mean a heavy research month can arrive with a bill you did not plan. Watch the usage meter in the first two months so you learn your own pattern.
Add-ons. Several capabilities are sold separately rather than bundled into the tiers, including report building and the AI brand-visibility tooling. Each is defensible on its own; together they are how a $129 subscription becomes a $250 line item. This is the same pattern that makes Semrush's real cost higher than its advertised one, and it is worth pricing your full basket at both vendors before deciding either is cheaper. If SEO software is one line in a much longer list of subscriptions, it is usually worth auditing what all of that software actually costs you before you argue about $30 on one of them.
Is Ahrefs worth the money?
It depends on one question: is backlink data part of your job? If yes, Ahrefs is the strongest product in the category and the price is defensible, because nothing cheap comes close on link coverage. If no, you are paying a premium for the most expensive part of the product and never opening it, and a tool costing a third as much will serve you just as well for keyword research. We went through that calculation in more detail in is Ahrefs worth it.
The other test is what you do after the export. Ahrefs is excellent at producing a list of keywords with trustworthy numbers attached. It does not group those keywords into pages, decide which query wants a comparison article and which wants a how-to, or tell you what to publish first. That planning step is manual in every tool at every price, which is why so many subscribers keep a spreadsheet open next to a $129 product.
Ahrefs plans and pricing: the questions people actually ask
These come up constantly, often phrased around a plan name that does not exist. Short answers first, in the wording people search for.
How much is an Ahrefs subscription?
An Ahrefs subscription costs $29 a month for Starter, $129 for Lite, $249 for Standard, $449 for Advanced and from $1,499 for Enterprise. Annual billing takes roughly 17% off every tier except Starter, which is sold month to month only. There is no free tier and no perpetual licence.
Ahrefs pricing plan by plan: what does each Ahrefs plan cost?
Each Ahrefs plan is priced on capacity rather than features. Starter at $29 caps reports at 250 rows and blocks exports entirely. Lite at $129 lifts that to 2,500 rows and 500,000 export rows a month. Standard at $249 adds Content Explorer and 30,000 rows. Advanced and Enterprise mostly buy volume and history.
Ahrefs pricing plans compared with the Ahrefs com pricing page
The figures here match what the Ahrefs com pricing page showed in 2026, with one caveat worth knowing: that page geo detects and serves euros to European visitors. The euro and dollar numerals are not always identical, so if you are budgeting in dollars, confirm you are reading the US view rather than converting.
Ahrefs new pricing in 2026: what changed?
The Ahrefs new pricing lifted Lite from $99 to $129, Standard from $199 to $249, Advanced from $399 to $449 and Enterprise from $999 to a quoted floor of about $1,499. A $29 Starter tier was added underneath. Treat these as corroborated rather than vendor published, since Ahrefs did not announce the change as a price list.
What is the Ahrefs price for monthly billing, and are Ahrefs prices lower annually?
The Ahrefs price on rolling monthly billing is $29, $129, $249 and $449 for Starter through Advanced. Ahrefs prices drop about 17% on annual billing, charged upfront for twelve months, which takes Lite to roughly $1,290 a year rather than $1,548. Starter is excluded from annual billing.
What does an Ahrefs Lite subscription include, and how does an Ahrefs Standard subscription differ?
An Ahrefs Lite subscription is $129 a month for 2,500 rows per report, 500,000 export rows, 50 keyword lists and 6 months of history. An Ahrefs Standard subscription at $249 gives 30,000 rows, 24 months of history and unlocks Content Explorer, which Lite does not include at any price. That Content Explorer gate is the main reason people move up.
Is there an Ahrefs newbie plan? And what is the Ahrefs starter plan?
There is no plan called the Ahrefs newbie plan. The cheapest real option is the Ahrefs starter plan at $29 a month, aimed at people checking their own site rather than doing client work. It includes Keywords Explorer, but caps every report at 250 rows and offers no exports at all, so you can look things up and not take them away.
Is there an Ahrefs premium account?
Ahrefs does not sell anything branded as an Ahrefs premium account. The top two tiers are Advanced at $449 a month and Enterprise from about $1,499, quoted rather than listed. Enterprise adds unlimited history, single sign on, an audit log and higher API allowances. If a site is offering you a discounted premium account, it is a shared login, not a plan.
Ahrefs packages and the Ahrefs tool price: what are you paying for?
Ahrefs packages bundle the same tools at different volumes rather than unlocking different products, with one exception. Content Explorer is genuinely gated to Standard and above. Everything else, including Keywords Explorer, Site Explorer and Site Audit, appears on every tier, so the Ahrefs tool price is mostly a question of how many rows and how much history you need.
What are Ahrefs credits and how many do you get?
Ahrefs credits are report units consumed when you run a lookup. Starter includes about 200 a month and Lite about 1,000, while Standard and above run on unlimited fair use. Ahrefs' own help articles disagree on the Starter figure, with one quoting 100 and another 200, so treat the exact number as approximate.
Is there an Ahrefs lifetime discount or an Ahrefs 30 day trial?
No to both. Ahrefs has never sold a lifetime licence and does not run a 30 day free trial. Any site advertising either is selling a shared account or an affiliate page. The only genuine discount is annual billing at roughly 17%. Among the major tools, Ubersuggest is the one that still sells a lifetime deal.
Cheaper ways to get the part you came for
If the reason you were pricing Ahrefs was keyword research rather than links, the field is wider and cheaper than the shortlist suggests. Google Keyword Planner is free with an active Ads account and reports genuine volume ranges. Ubersuggest is $29 a month with softer data. We compared the three head to head, with verified September 2026 pricing, in Semrush vs Ubersuggest vs Ahrefs, and priced the wider field in the best keyword research tools roundup.
And if what you actually want is the plan rather than the list, that is the job Keywordpilot does: one seed keyword in, intent-aware clusters and an ordered content plan out, from $39 a month on founding pricing. It will not replace a link index. It will replace the afternoon you were going to spend sorting an export. Try it on the Ahrefs alternative page or run a seed through the demo at the top of this article.
Pricing in this article was checked against the Ahrefs pricing page in August 2026 and is correct to the best of our knowledge on that date. Vendors change prices; confirm before you buy.
