AI Search Visibility Tools: AI Visibility Tracker, AI Rank Tracking and LLM Visibility Tracking Compared
An AI search visibility tool tracks whether ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Gemini name your brand when a buyer asks which vendor to use. Every tool in this category meters the same unit, the tracked prompt, and the price per prompt swings by a factor of twenty between vendors charging the same headline figure. The cheapest ways in right now are Otterly at EUR 29 a month for 15 prompts and Semrush AI Visibility at $99 a month per domain for 25. If you already pay for SE Ranking Core, you already have 100 prompts tracked daily and probably do not need to buy anything at all.

Want the full plan with tracked volumes, difficulty and rank monitoring on your real site?
Keywordpilot is an independent keyword research and content planning tool. We do not sell AI visibility monitoring, and this page names the tools that do. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or a reseller of Ahrefs, Semrush, Moz, SE Ranking, Surfer or Otterly, and those names are their owners’ trademarks. Every figure below was read off the vendor’s own pricing page in August 2026.
▸ The number no vendor puts on its pricing page
AI visibility tracker pricing, converted to cost per tracked prompt
Headline prices in this category are close enough to look interchangeable. The allowances behind them are not. Ahrefs Lite and SE Ranking Core both cost exactly $129 a month, and one of them tracks 5 prompts while the other tracks 100 a day. Dividing the entry price by the prompt allowance is the only way to compare them honestly, so that is what the last column does. The arithmetic is ours, not a vendor statistic.
| Tool | Cheapest plan that tracks AI answers | Prompts tracked | Cost per prompt | Bought as |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SE Ranking Core | $129 a month, or $103.20 billed annually | 100 tracked daily | $1.29, or $1.03 annually | Included in a full SEO platform |
| Otterly Standard | EUR 189 a month | 100 | EUR 1.89 | Standalone AI visibility product |
| Otterly Lite | EUR 29 a month | 15 | EUR 1.93 | Standalone AI visibility product |
| Moz Pro Standard | $99 a month | 50 | $1.98 | Included in a full SEO platform |
| Semrush AI Visibility | $99 a month per domain, billed annually | 25 | $3.96 | Standalone add-on, priced per domain |
| Ahrefs Lite (Brand Radar) | $129 a month | 5 | $25.80 | Included in a full SEO platform |
| Surfer AI Search Analytics | $158 a month standalone | not published | not calculable | Standalone AI visibility product |
Read the last column with one caveat firmly in mind. SE Ranking, Moz and Ahrefs are selling you a whole SEO platform and the prompt tracking rides along inside it, so the per-prompt figure overstates how badly Ahrefs is doing. Nobody pays $129 for five prompts. What the number does show is which subscription you should stop paying twice for: if SE Ranking Core is already on your card, buying a separate tracker is buying something you own. Whole-platform pricing for each vendor sits on our SE Ranking pricing, Semrush pricing, Moz pricing and Ahrefs pricing breakdowns.
▸ Which assistants each tool actually reads
AI rank tracking coverage, engine by engine
Prompt count is half the decision. The other half is which engines those prompts get run against, and the published lists differ more than the marketing suggests. Here is what each vendor states on its own site in August 2026.
| Tool | Engines it publishes | Claude | Tracking frequency |
|---|---|---|---|
| Otterly | ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot in the base four. Claude, Google AI Mode and Gemini sold as add-ons. | Add-on | Daily on every plan |
| Semrush AI Visibility | ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Perplexity. | Not listed | Daily AI rankings, plus weekly and monthly updates |
| SE Ranking | Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Perplexity and ChatGPT. | Not listed | Daily |
| Ahrefs Brand Radar | The free checker covers ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode, with YouTube, TikTok and Reddit in beta. | Not listed | Not published per plan |
| Moz Pro | GPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Perplexity, four models on every tier including Standard as of 2 September 2026. | Not listed | Not published per plan |
The Claude column is the finding worth taking away. Four of the five tools here do not mention Claude in their published engine lists at all, and the fifth sells it as an extra. For a business selling to developers, legal teams or anyone else who lives in Claude all day, the category currently has a hole in it, and no amount of prompt allowance fills it. Ask any vendor directly before you sign an annual deal.
▸ Six numbers, and two of them change what you do next
What an AI visibility tracker actually reports
The dashboards look alike across vendors because they are all reading the same thing: the text an assistant produced, and the links it attached. Here is what comes back, and which of it is worth a meeting.
Mention rate
The share of your tracked prompts where the assistant named you at all. This is the headline number every tool leads with, and it is the one to trend rather than to read once.
Share of voice
Your mentions as a proportion of all brands named across the same prompt set. More useful than mention rate on its own, because a category where nobody gets named is a different problem from one where rivals do.
Competitor set
Which brands appear alongside you, which is frequently the most surprising output. Assistants routinely group vendors differently from how the market does, and finding out you are being compared to someone unexpected changes your positioning copy.
Cited sources
The URLs the assistant leaned on to build the answer. This is the actionable one. If a review site or a forum thread is the source and your own page is not, you now know exactly what to go and fix.
Position in the answer
Whether you were the first recommendation or the fourth name in a list. Being mentioned last in a paragraph a user skims is not the same win as being the answer.
Sentiment and context
How you were characterized, not just whether you appeared. Being named as the expensive option is a mention, and it is not a good one.
Cited sources is where AI rank tracking stops being a vanity dashboard and starts being a work queue. The practice of turning that queue into pages is answer engine optimization, and the questions worth answering in the first place come out of SEO keyword research.
▸ The decision most buyers get backwards
Buy the standalone tracker, or use the one inside the SEO platform you already pay for
Almost nobody arrives at this category with a clean slate. Most teams already pay for an SEO platform, and four of the big ones now ship some form of LLM visibility tracking inside the subscription. Working out whether that included allowance is enough saves either a few hundred dollars a month or a lot of wasted evaluation time.
Use what you already pay for if…
- you are on SE Ranking Core or Growth, where 100 and 250 daily prompts already beat most standalone entry plans
- you are on Moz Pro Standard and 50 prompts covers your product line
- you want AI answer data sitting next to classic rank data in one report for a client
- you are still deciding whether this channel matters to you and want a cheap look first
Buy a standalone tracker if…
- you are on Ahrefs, where 5 tracked prompts on Lite will not cover a single product page properly
- you need Microsoft Copilot or Claude, which the bundled tools mostly do not publish
- you need an API or MCP access to pull the data into your own reporting
- you track several brands and the per-domain pricing on the bundled options gets expensive fast
One pricing shape deserves flagging before you compare monthly figures: Semrush AI Visibility is priced per domain, so a second brand is another $99 a month rather than a line item on the same bill. Otterly charges by prompt count and includes unlimited team members on every tier, which is the opposite shape. Agencies should model both against their real client count rather than the headline price. How the seat and client-licence models differ across vendors is worked through in SE Ranking Agency Pack pricing against Ahrefs seat costs.
▸ Four steps, in this order
How to pick an AI search visibility tool without overbuying
1. Run the free check first
Ahrefs runs a free AI Visibility Checker with no signup. Run your brand and two competitors through it before you evaluate anything paid. If you are already being cited, your problem is smaller than you feared. If you are invisible, monitoring will not fix that on its own.
2. Write the prompts before you shop
Draft the actual questions a buyer asks an assistant before choosing a vendor in your category. Count them. That count is your plan size, and it is usually between 15 and 40, not the 400 the premium tiers are sold on.
3. Check your existing subscription
Look at what your current SEO platform already includes. SE Ranking Core carries 100 daily prompts and Moz Pro Standard carries 50, so a lot of teams are about to buy something they own.
4. Match the engine list to your buyers
Developer and legal audiences skew to Claude, which almost nothing tracks. Consumer and general business audiences skew to ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews, which everything tracks. Buy for where your buyers actually ask.
▸ Where Keywordpilot fits, and where it does not
We do not track AI visibility. We plan the pages that get cited
Worth saying plainly on a page that ranks for tracker queries: Keywordpilot is not an AI visibility tracker and we are not going to pretend otherwise to keep you here. Every tool in the tables above measures an outcome. None of them writes the page that changes the outcome, and several of them will happily bill you monthly to watch a zero stay a zero.
What decides whether an assistant cites you is whether a page on your site answers the exact question clearly enough to quote. That means covering the whole question set for a topic rather than one keyword, grouping those questions into pages that each own a coherent intent, and writing direct answers instead of preamble. Keywordpilot takes one seed term and returns that structure: clustered questions, a winnability read per cluster and a publish order. Buy monitoring after there is something to monitor.
One seed in
Type the term a buyer would ask about. No prompt list to assemble first and no export step before the grouping happens.
Question clusters out
The questions people actually ask come back grouped by intent, which is the same unit an assistant answers in.
Winnability bands
Each cluster carries a difficulty read, so the topics a site your size will not reach this year get dropped before you commit budget.
A publish order
The plan arrives sequenced with a brief per cluster, which is the input a tracker is waiting on.
Structuring content so answer engines can lift it is covered on the answer engine optimization page, building the full question set for a topic is topical authority, and the AI-assisted SEO platforms in this space are scored on the AI SEO software roundup.

AI search visibility tool questions
What is an AI search visibility tool?
An AI search visibility tool checks whether ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot mention your brand when someone asks a buying question. You supply a list of prompts, the tool runs them against each engine on a schedule, and it records whether you were named, which competitors were named beside you and which pages got cited as the source.
How do I track my brand in ChatGPT?
Write the 10 to 30 questions a buyer would actually type before choosing a vendor in your category, then run them against ChatGPT on a fixed schedule and log the answers. Doing that by hand stops scaling almost immediately, which is what the paid trackers automate. Every tool in the table below covers ChatGPT, so the choice comes down to how many prompts you get and which other engines are included.
Is there a free AI visibility checker?
Yes. Ahrefs runs a free AI Visibility Checker at ahrefs.com/ai-visibility-checker with no signup, and it covers ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Google AI Overviews. The free report is a limited preview showing the top five results per section, so it is a snapshot rather than monitoring. It is the fastest honest way to find out whether you have a problem before you pay anyone.
How much does AI visibility tracking cost?
The entry points in August 2026 are Otterly Lite at EUR 29 a month for 15 tracked prompts, Semrush AI Visibility at $99 a month per domain billed annually for 25 prompts, and Moz Pro Standard at $99 a month for 50. SE Ranking Core includes 100 prompts tracked daily inside its $129 plan, which works out cheapest per prompt of any option here.
What is a tracked prompt?
A tracked prompt is one question the tool re-runs against the AI engines on a schedule so you can see your answer share change over time. It is the unit every vendor meters on, the way rank trackers meter on keywords. Five prompts covers one narrow topic. Twenty-five covers a product line. A hundred covers a category with competitors and buying-stage variants.
Does Ahrefs track AI visibility?
Yes, through Brand Radar, which is listed in the feature column of the Lite plan at $129 a month. Lite includes 5 tracked AI prompts, Standard at $249 includes 10 and Advanced at $449 includes 20. That is the smallest prompt allowance of any tool on this page, so treat Brand Radar as a bonus inside an SEO subscription rather than as the reason to buy Ahrefs.
Can you track brand mentions in Claude?
Almost nowhere, which is the blind spot in this category. Ahrefs, Semrush, Moz and SE Ranking all publish engine lists built around ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Google AI surfaces, and none of them lists Claude. Otterly is the only tool here that offers Claude at all, and it is sold as a paid add-on rather than included in the four base engines.
Is AI visibility tracking worth it?
It is worth it once you have content that could plausibly be cited, and not before. A tracker measures an outcome. If nothing on your site directly answers the questions buyers ask an assistant, the tracker will faithfully report zero every day. Fix the content first, then buy monitoring to prove the change, which is the order most vendors have an incentive not to mention.
