The Semrush free trial is seven days, and it requires a credit card. That is what semrush.com says on its own pricing page, checked in September 2026: "Try Semrush free for seven days. Cancel anytime." Not fourteen days, not thirty. If you arrived here from a page promising a 30-day Semrush trial, that page is describing an offer Semrush retired years ago, and the link at the end of it drops you on the same seven-day signup everyone else gets.
This matters in a practical way rather than a pedantic one. A card on file means the trial does not end, it converts. Day eight is a $139 charge unless you cancelled on day seven. People who plan a two-week evaluation because a coupon site told them they had two weeks tend to discover this from a bank alert.
Why half the internet says 14 or 30 days
Search "semrush free trial 30 days" and the first page is almost entirely affiliate and coupon sites. The headlines say "Exclusive 30-day Free Trial", "14 Days Full Access", "Free 30 days Trial Account (Worth $199)". These pages are paid per signup. A trial headline converts far better than a price headline, and Semrush has little reason to police pages that send it customers, so the claims sit there collecting rankings for years after the offer behind them stopped existing.
Some of those links do point at Semrush partner landing pages rather than the ordinary signup, and a longer window occasionally exists through that route. What I can verify is narrower and more useful: the terms published by Semrush, on Semrush's own pricing page, today, are seven days with a card. Plan around the number the vendor publishes, not the number an affiliate publishes, and you will not be surprised.
What each claim actually resolves to
| The claim | Reality in September 2026 |
|---|---|
| Semrush free trial | Real. Seven days, credit card required, on the SEO, Starter and Pro+ plans. |
| Semrush 14 day trial | Not the published offer. Semrush states seven days on its pricing page. |
| Semrush 30 day trial | Discontinued. Still advertised widely by coupon sites. |
| Semrush free account | Real, and different from a trial. A permanently free tier with capped daily lookups. It never expires and it never opens up. |
| Semrush free trial without a credit card | Does not exist. The card is required to start. |
| Semrush Advanced free trial | The trial button appears on SEO, Starter and Pro+. Advanced says Subscribe. |
What it costs you on day eight
Read off the Semrush pricing page in September 2026, with the annual rate in brackets: SEO $139 a month ($117.33), Starter $199 ($165.17), Pro+ $299 ($248.17), Advanced $549 ($455.67). Whichever plan you picked at signup is the plan that starts billing, so choosing Pro+ "just to see everything" during the trial is a $299 decision if you forget to cancel. Pick the plan you would actually buy. The full tier breakdown, including what each one meters, is on our Semrush pricing page.
Semrush also documents that the trial option can be used once per account. After that, attempts to start another trial begin a paid month instead. So the common trick of cycling a second trial on a second email is not a plan you can rely on, and it is not worth building an evaluation around.
How to get something real out of seven days
A week is enough to answer a decision question and not enough to do a project. Treat it that way.
Before you start the trial, have the inputs ready: the domain you are working on, two or three competitor domains, and a written list of the ten to fifteen questions you need answered. Starting the clock and then spending day one deciding what to look at is how most trials get wasted. Put the cancellation date in your calendar the moment you sign up, one day early, not on the deadline itself.
Then spend the week on the things that are hard to judge from screenshots: whether the keyword data for your specific niche is any good, whether the interface fits how you actually work, and whether the exports land in a shape your process can use. Feature lists are on the marketing site. What you cannot learn without access is whether the tool is accurate about your market and pleasant to use at eight in the morning. If you are billing this back to client work as an independent consultant, run it against a live client project rather than a demo site, because that is the only test that tells you whether the subscription pays for itself.
Export everything you care about before the final day. Projects, keyword lists and tracked positions generally stop updating when a plan lapses and cannot be pulled out afterwards. Whatever you found during the week only exists if it left the tool.
The trials that are longer, cheaper, or absent
If the seven-day window and the card requirement are the problem rather than Semrush itself, the two useful comparisons are these.
SE Ranking runs fourteen days and states "No credit card required" on its own pricing page, describing the trial as fully functional. It is twice the runway and it fails safe: forget about it and you lose access rather than gain a charge. Core is $129 a month afterwards. The side by side against Semrush, including what each trial blocks while it runs, is in our Semrush and SE Ranking trial comparison.
Ahrefs runs no trial at all, on any plan, which surprises people who assume the category standard applies everywhere. Its free tier only works on domains where you have verified ownership, so it cannot research a competitor or size a topic for a site you have not built. We wrote up what does and does not exist there on the Ahrefs free trial page. If you want every trial in the category in one table, that is on keyword research tool free trial.
The honest version of where we fit
Keywordpilot does not run a seven-day countdown, because the demo higher up this page runs before you have an account at all. Type a seed keyword and the real clustering engine gives you topic clusters and a content plan in about twenty seconds. No card, no signup, nothing to cancel. That is the part of a trial most people actually want, which is seeing the output before committing to anything.
And the part these articles usually leave out: we are not a Semrush replacement. No backlink index, no site crawler, no rank tracking today, no API, no advertising research. If your evaluation is about any of those, buy Semrush or SE Ranking and do not buy us. We do one thing, which is turning a seed keyword into clustered, prioritized topics you can write against. Paid plans start at $39 a month on the founding tiers. We are also in early access, so accounts open in waves, and if you need a tool running on a client project this week the fourteen-day no-card option above is the faster answer.
Put it into practice
The fastest way to apply this article: run your own niche through the free Keywordpilot demo. One seed keyword, twenty seconds, a clustered mini content plan. No account.
