For a small agency, the cheapest workable way to track a client's visibility in AI answers is usually the tool already on your card. SE Ranking Core includes 100 prompts tracked daily at $129 a month and Moz Pro Standard includes 50 at $99, which covers a single client comfortably. The moment you have more than two or three clients, per-domain pricing starts deciding the answer for you, and the standalone tools with unlimited team members and flat prompt pools get cheaper than the platform bundles.

This is written for agencies running somewhere between three and twenty client sites, because that is the band where the pricing models genuinely diverge and where the wrong pick costs real money every month. Every figure below was read off the vendor's own pricing page in August 2026. The full category breakdown, including cost per tracked prompt for every tool, sits on our AI search visibility tools comparison.

The unit that decides your bill is the tracked prompt

Every vendor in this category meters the same thing. A tracked prompt is one question the tool re-runs against ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and the rest on a schedule, so you can watch your answer share move. It is the AI equivalent of a tracked keyword, and it behaves the same way in a contract: you will underestimate how many you need, and the overage pricing is where the margin lives.

A realistic per-client prompt set for a B2B services business is 15 to 30 questions. That covers the category question, four or five buying-stage variants, a few competitor comparisons and a handful of problem-first phrasings. Multiply by your client count before you look at any pricing page, because that single number tells you immediately which half of the market you are shopping in.

What each option costs an agency

Tool Entry price Prompts How it scales for multiple clients
SE Ranking Core $129/mo, $103.20 annually 100 tracked daily 10 projects and 5 domains in GEO research are included, so several clients fit inside one bill. Cheapest per prompt of anything here.
Otterly Standard EUR 189/mo 100 Unlimited team members and unlimited workspaces on every tier, plus API and MCP access. Extra prompts are EUR 99 per 100.
Otterly Lite EUR 29/mo 15 One workspace. Fine for a single client or a pilot, tight the moment you add a second.
Moz Pro Standard $99/mo 50 1 AI visibility dashboard included, extra dashboards $20 each, extra prompts $50 per 100. Dashboard count is the real client ceiling.
Semrush AI Visibility $99/mo per domain, billed annually 25 Priced per domain, so five clients is five subscriptions. The most expensive shape in this table for an agency.
Ahrefs Lite, via Brand Radar $129/mo 5 Five prompts will not cover one client properly. Treat it as a bonus inside an Ahrefs subscription, not as your tracking stack.

The number that jumps out of that table is the twenty to one gap between SE Ranking Core and Ahrefs Lite at an identical $129 a month. Neither vendor advertises the comparison and neither is being dishonest, because the two subscriptions are selling different things. It does mean that if AI answer tracking is a service line you intend to bill for, the platform you already chose for backlinks may be quietly the worst tool you own for it.

Per-domain pricing is the trap

Read the pricing unit before the price. Semrush AI Visibility is $99 a month per domain, which is entirely reasonable for a brand tracking itself and brutal for an agency tracking eight clients. At eight clients that is $792 a month for 200 prompts. Otterly Standard covers 100 prompts across unlimited workspaces for EUR 189, and SE Ranking Core covers 100 daily prompts across ten projects for $129.

The same logic applies to seats, and it catches people out in the opposite direction. Client-facing access and working logins are different products priced differently by every vendor, which is worth an article of its own and gets one in SE Ranking Agency Pack pricing against Ahrefs seat costs. Model your actual client count and your actual headcount against both units before you commit to an annual plan.

Check the engine list against the client, not the category

Prompt allowance gets all the attention and engine coverage decides whether the data is any use. The published lists differ more than you would expect. Otterly's base four are ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot. Semrush publishes ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini and Perplexity. SE Ranking publishes Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Perplexity and ChatGPT. Moz Pro publishes GPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Perplexity, and as of 2 September 2026 lists all four on every tier including Standard, having previously named only two on the entry plan.

Claude is the hole. None of the platform vendors lists it, and Otterly sells it as a paid add-on rather than including it in the base four. If a client sells to developers, to legal teams or to anyone else whose working day runs through Claude, say so during the sales call rather than discovering it in month three. Ask the vendor directly and get the answer in writing before an annual commitment.

Run the free check before you spend anything

Ahrefs publishes a free AI Visibility Checker with no signup that covers ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Google AI Overviews. The free report is a limited preview showing the top five results per section, so it is a snapshot rather than monitoring, and that is exactly what you want for a pitch. Run the prospect and two of their competitors through it and you have a slide before you have a contract.

That snapshot also tells you whether monitoring is the right first sale at all. A tracker measures an outcome. If the client has no page that directly answers the questions buyers ask an assistant, the dashboard will report zero every day for a year, and you will have sold a subscription that makes your work look bad. Selling the content build first and the monitoring second is both the honest order and the one that renews. Agencies pitching this as a new service line generally find the harder problem is not the tooling but getting in front of the right prospects in the first place, which is a researched outbound problem rather than an SEO one.

What we would actually buy

Three clients or fewer, already on an SEO platform: use what you have. SE Ranking Core at 100 daily prompts or Moz Pro Standard at 50 will carry you, and you can bill for the reporting without adding a line to your costs.

Four to twelve clients: Otterly Standard at EUR 189 for 100 prompts across unlimited workspaces, with the API and MCP access to pull the numbers into whatever you already report in. The per-domain models get expensive past three clients and this is where they stop making sense.

Anyone on Ahrefs as their main platform: buy a standalone tracker regardless of client count. Five prompts on Lite is not a starting point, it is a demonstration. Ahrefs is an excellent backlink and keyword tool and this is not the part of it to lean on, which is the same conclusion reached in our Ahrefs vs SE Ranking comparison.

What people mean by an AI SEO tracker, an AI SERP visibility tracker and a prompt tracker

These three names describe the same purchase and get used interchangeably, which makes shopping for one harder than it should be. An AI SEO tracker watches whether your brand appears in answers from ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Mode. An AI SERP visibility tracker usually means the same thing, borrowing the older SERP vocabulary. An AI prompt tracking tool is the most literal of the three, because the prompt is the unit you are billed on. If a vendor quotes you a number of prompts, that is what you are buying, and the comparison above prices every option on exactly that unit.

One distinction does matter when you are comparing an agency AI search tracking tool against a single brand one: whether prompts pool across clients or are metered per domain. Pooled prompts let you spend capacity where a campaign needs it this month. Per domain metering means an agency with eight clients pays eight times, which is why Semrush AI Visibility at $99 per domain reaches $792 a month for the same eight clients that SE Ranking Core covers inside its $129. For AI visibility tracking agency work at any real client count, that single structural difference outweighs every feature on the list.

Worth saying plainly: AI SEO tracking is measurement, not improvement. Every tool here tells you whether you are cited today. None changes whether you are cited tomorrow. Budget for the tracker as reporting spend and keep the larger share for the content work that actually moves the number.

Then go and fix the input

Every tool above answers the question "are we being cited". None of them answers "what should we publish so we get cited". That second question is the one with the money in it, and it comes down to covering the full set of questions a buyer asks about a topic, grouping them so each page owns one coherent intent, and answering directly enough to be quotable. The mechanics are on our answer engine optimization page, and the fastest way to get the question set for a client is to run their seed term through the keyword clustering tool and read the clusters back as prompts. That list doubles as the prompt set you load into whichever tracker you just bought.
